Dear Colleagues,

I’m very pleased to announce several important enhancements to LexisNexis Academic that went into effect with our release last weekend.

1. Individual States added to Federal & State Codes Search Form source selection
We have added the combined statutes, constitution, annotated code, and court rules file for each state to the source selection box.

2. Improved tools for Results Groups
The results classification tools at the left of the results window now allows you to sort alphabetically in addition to the previous arrangement by number of hits. There is also a new “View Multiple Groups” feature that allows you to combine any of the groupings displayed into a customized subset of your results.

To see this in action, please try the following self-guided walking tour:

--Run a search in Major Newspaper Papers for HLEAD(steve jobs AND bill gates) in the last 2 years, or simply use the direct link

--At the top left of the results group, you should see two new sorting buttons for A-Z and 1-N, as well as a new link for “View Multiple Groups”

--The default view should be “Source by Category sorted by 1-N (number of hits). Change the dropdown box option to “Publication Name” then use the A-Z sort button to rearrange the list of newspapers alphabetically. Use the 1-N button to put them back in the order of number of hits.

--Next, click the “View Multiple Groups” link to pop up a list of all the groupings that were generated for your result set. Select a few publications and click the “View Selected” button at bottom right. You’ll now see a subset of just the hits that come from those publications.

3. Findable People and Companies
This new feature exploits the XML tagging LexisNexis has been adding over the past few years. Companies and personal names that have been identified and tagged in full text documents are now highlighted with links to related searches. For companies, a single click takes you to the full Company Dossier report, or you can choose a Company Profiles search or a news search. For people you can choose a biographies & news search or a straight news search.
