What & How to Proxy

Here are guidelines for how and when to proxy when you add a link on a library web page, libguides, etc. 

What to Proxy

Proxy resources we pay for, like EBSCOhost, ProQuest databases, journals we subscribe to, and the like.  Do not proxy free resources like nytimes.com. The proxied links for free stuff won’t work because EZproxy will not know what to do with them. If you aren’t sure if a link should be proxied, please contact elibrary.

How to Proxy 

Just add http://ezproxy.lib.uconn.edu/login?url= to the start of URL. For example, JStor (http://www.jstor.org/) becomes http://ezproxy.lib.uconn.edu/login?url=http://www.jstor.org/.

Or, you can point to a link in a system that is already proxied, like the RDL (http://rdl.lib.uconn.edu/databases/1063;go) or Serials Solutions (http://tk8nj5xn8a.search.serialssolutions.com.ezproxy.lib.uconn.edu/?V=1.0&N=100&L=TK8NJ5XN8A&S=I_M&C=0046-8185+). If you link directly to items in the RDL or Serials Solutions, you don’t have to determine if the link needs proxying or not, because we’ve already done that for your in those systems.

Test links after proxying! For most errors we will be notified automatically and we’ll get things fixed.
