Ulrich’s is a great tool for determining where a journal is available online. It’s not perfect, but this post will provide some tips on making the best of this option.
Search for a journal by ISSN, title, or keyword, and then select the title you want. Look at the tabs to find out more about the journal. Especially relevant are:
- The [Abstracting / Indexing & Article Access] tab tells you where the journal is indexed and/or abstracted. This is pretty literal – they include EBSCO’s Computer Science Index here, because it’s strictly an index, but not EBSCO’s Computer Source, because it’s got full text and isn’t only an index.
- the [Other Editions / Formats] tab tells you some of the databases that have the title in full-text. It’s not complete (see below for some missing titles), but it does provide a little more information for some journals. It does include Muse, JStor, ScienceDirect, and some Gale databases.
Some missing indexes / abstracts services and full-text databases include:- ACM- BioOne- EBSCO’s Academic Search Premier
